The Way We Lived?

The Way We Lived? draws upon the work of Arjun Appadurai, and his articulation for a Global Cultural Economy, with attention focused on the flow of material culture around the globe. The project is concerned with both production and consumption patterns, bearing witness to the flow of commodities across the world and the subsequent packaging that is often found discarded in urban spaces.

This project utilised a methodology of critical walking aligned with the concept of psychogeography, and draws upon the writings of Arjun Appdurai, Walter Benjamin and Henri Lefebvre among others.

Pieces from this body of work won both a Marzee Prize at the International Graduate Awards and the Jewellery section of the ECC New Zealand Student Craft Design Awards in 2020.
